“Buryakivka”RWDS

Buryakivka radioactive waste disposal site was designed and built as part of overcoming the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The repository is intended for the disposal of low- and medium-level short-lived radioactive waste.

Radioactive waste in the form of soil, construction waste, concrete, metal, elements of reinforced concrete and metal structures are buried in the storage facilities of the Buryakivka nuclear waste disposal facility. Structurally, the RWDS is a complex of trench-type near-surface storages, which are covered with shielding layers that prevent radionuclides from entering the environment.
